National Inventor’s Day

Today is National Inventor’s Day, as proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1983 in recognition of Thomas Edison’s birthday.  Thomas Edison, one of the United State’s prolific inventors in United States history (holding 1,093 patents), is perhaps best known for patenting the first commercially practical incandescent lightbulb.  Edison also founded Con Edison, the electric company headquartered just off Union Square Park and a major investor in the small business community of our neighborhood.  We are grateful for the support of Con Edison has provided to the neighborhood and the contributions of its founder.  This blog’s for you Mr.Edison.  Thank you!
