In an effort to support New York State’s excellent agricultural products, local foods, wines, beers and spirits, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that dozens of New York State chefs and restaurants have taken the Pride of New York Pledge. Working together with the New York State Restaurant Association, the Governor reached out to restaurants, restaurant groups and chefs to support the Pride of New York Pledge and increase their use of New York State products by 10 percent or more.

The Union Square Partnership’s commitment to sourcing locally has always been a priority. With Union Square Park being home to the City’s oldest and largest Greenmarket, we have always encouraged heavy use of Greenmarket products in our annual Harvest in the Square benefit. Bette Midler Author Event at Barnes & Noble on April 1st

bette midlerThe legendary Bette Midler needs little introduction. The iconic singer-songwriter, actress, comedian, film producer and entrepreneur is re-releasing her 1980 Memoir A View from a Broad. To launch the re-issue on Tuesday, April 1st at 7 PM, the Union Square Barnes & Noble is hosting Bette Midler in conversation with Judy Gold, Emmy Award-winning writer, comedian and actress.

Celebs at the Union Square Pie Face for a Charity Event

charity pie faceWe hear that Pie Face is hosting some celebrities today from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM for a charity event. The details are a little fuzzy, but according to Twitter, it’s for a major TV Show. Celebrity Apprentice, perhaps?  Will the Donald make an appearance at #CharityPieFace?  I guess we will find out. Reality TV stars such as Kate Gosselin, Brandi Glanville, Kenya Moore will be joined by The Cosby Show’s Keisha Knight Pulliam and Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson along with others to raise money for charity.

Notice: Paid Sick Leave Law

paid sick leaveEffective April 1, all New York City employers with five or more employees will be required to provide paid sick leave to their employees.  Mayor Bill de Blasio signed the legislation into law yesterday, which was an amendment to the Paid Sick Leave law that passed last year, initially only applied to companies with 20 or more employees.
