7 Car-Free Miles in NYC at Citi Summer Streets

Enjoy Citi Summer Streets on August 5th, 12th and 19th from 7 AM to 1 PM

Fill your August Saturday schedule with walking, playing, biking and exploring the motorless streets of Manhattan from Central Park to the Brooklyn Bridge at Citi Summer Streets. For the first three Saturdays in August, Park Avenue will be car-free and full of activities to enjoy.

Pick up or drop off a Citi Bike in Union Square at one of 12 locations (find them on the map). Don’t have a pass? Enter our summer social media contest using the hashtag #USQSummer and you could win a 24-hour pass. Daily, weekly or monthly passes are also available to purchase at any Citi Bike station with a credit card.

You’ll find activities all along the Citi Summer Streets route, or you can stop and stay a while in Union Square:

  • Every Saturday the Union Square Greenmarket fills the North and West plaza with farmers, bakers and more selling fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as breads, honey, hot sauce and more
  • At 2 PM, you can enjoy a free walking tour with the historians at Big Onion Walking Tours around Union Square Park. Meet at the Abraham Lincoln Statue on the 16th Street transverse.
  • On August 19th, meet Anna Kendrick at Barnes & Noble
  • For the first two Saturdays, book a Restaurant Week prix fixe brunch at a local spot you’ve never tried before

Car Free NYC Closes Broadway to Traffic on Sat. April 22nd

This Earth Day, NYC DOT is closing Broadway from Times Square to Union Square to vehicular traffic and is filling NYC’s public plazas with exciting activities like dance, art, presentations, music, and more with Car Free NYC. In Union Square, prepare for free fitness on the Broadway Pedestrian Plaza (17th Street and Broadway) with neighborhood business Paragon Sports.

Businesses, residents and visitors should prepare for April 22nd in order to minimize disruption due to street closures. See below for tips from the NYC DOT:

Earth Day Initiative Celebration

On Tuesday, April 18th from 12 – 7 PM join Earth Day Initiative to meet environmental non-profits, green businesses, and enjoy kids’ activities and live performances.

Car Free NYC

On the second annual Car Free NYC on Earth Day, April 22nd from 10 AM – 4 PM join Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez and the NYCDOT as they close down Broadway to cars from Times Square to Union Square. In Union Square’s pedestrian plaza, enjoy free fitness with Paragon Sports and more.
